June 2026 – Conferences in Denmark and South Korea

Tate Morgan, who leads work related to self-sourced or DIY hormone use, attended two international conferences in June 2026; the Danish Gender Studies Conference in Odense, and the Science and Technology Studies School in Seoul, organised by the Journal Science, Technology and Human Values.  Both conferences provided opportunities share early work in progress, as well as to meet with academics working on related topics in the Danish and South Korean contexts respectively. These discussions included comparing how gender affirming healthcare is provided in these different nations and how the use of DIY hormones differs in relation to different forms of healthcare access. 

October 2025 – Taiwan

As part of the project, we carried out fieldwork in Taipei and Tainan, interviewing clinicians, researchers, community organisations, and informal PrEP users. These conversations helped map how HIV prevention circulates through semi-informal, and informal networks. The trip provided key insights into transnational flows, community knowledge, and the everyday practices that shape informal access to PrEP in Taiwan.

19 September 2025 – Online 

We held an online companion workshop that opened participation to colleagues joining from China, India, the United States, and several other countries. The virtual format enabled broader discussion of digital DIY health and informal pharmaceutical networks. This event enriched the diversity of perspectives and strengthened global collaboration across the project.

12 September 2025 – Queen Mary University of London
We hosted an in-person workshop exploring how digital platforms support informal health practices, community care, and self-managed treatment pathways. The event brought together researchers and practitioners working on DIY health, contested illness, and online support networks. Discussions from the workshop laid the foundation for a forthcoming journal special issue on digital DIY health.
