Policy & Practice

We see self-managed health as a set of practices that can inform and improve healthcare. We do not see self-managed health as something that is always harmful or should be eliminated.

The third and final phase of the study concentrates on health activism and its influence in scientific evidence-making and policy change. We explore how informal and semi-legal forms of health activism come to influence policy and practice on health.

  • How do communities who support self-managed health engage with medical and political institutions?
  • How and where have they been successful at translating practices from self-managed health into policy changes?
  • What lessons from self-managed SRH could be used to improve the design and delivery of health systems?
