Would you like to participate in our work?

If you have experience self-managing with PrEP, abortion pills, or gender-affirming hormones, we would like to interview you! Self-managing means getting and using medicines without a prescription. This could include buying medicines without a prescription from an online pharmacy, social networks such as using a friend’s prescription or medication, homebrewing medicine, or from any other informal source.

Who can participate?

Eligibility: Anyone who is an adult and who has experience of buy and/or using PrEP, abortion pills, or gender-affirming hormones without a prescription or formal supervision from doctors. If you have attempted to self-manage with these medicines but were unable to get them or unable to use them, we would still like to speak with you about your experience.

Age: You must be over 18 to participate

Gender: All genders

Location: Any country

How can I participate?

Please email us at [email protected] or contact us through the ‘contact’ tab on this site. Please tell us your age and country, and which of these medicines you have experience with self-managing (PrEP, abortion pills, or gender-affirming hormones).

We might invite you for an interview of between 30-60 minutes, online. Before the interview we will provide you with a participant information form, and you will need to review and sign a consent form to participate.

If you would like to see the interview questions ahead of time, we can provide these. We are also happy to provide more information and talk to you informally before an interview about how we will store and use your data if you have any further questions or concerns about this.

How will you keep my information confidential?

We recognise that sometimes self-managing your health means doing things that are legally risky, or which may be illegal. We will protect your identity and your data at all stages of the project.

With your permission, we will record the interview and use this to product a written transcript of your interview. This will be anonymised, and your name will not be attached to your interview – instead we will replace your name with a code throughout the transcript and remove any other identifiable information.

Once the transcript is complete, we will permanently delete the interview recording and only the transcript will be stored. No one will have access to your anonymous interview transcript, besides the research team, and we will not store your email, name or phone number after your interview. This means no one can trace your anonymised interview back to you or identify the information you have given us.

You will never be personally identified, or identifiable, in any publications from the study.

If you prefer, you can participate in the entire project anonymously. You can email us from an anonymous account (you can create a free one on ProtonMail) and participate in an interview without giving us your real name, real email, or a phone number.
